The Building invites: Body and soul

Herkenrode Refuge House, Hasselt (1 - 29/8/'26)

Met huid en haar brings together a selection of emerging artists from the TB/G community with invited artists in the Refugiehuis gallery, operated by UHasselt. This building was originally part of the 16th-century Herkenrode Abbey and subsequently served as a military barracks until 1956.

The aim of the exhibition is to showcase the work of artists from the periphery, both geographically and in terms of their position within the arts. The participants are not concerned with their place in the arts but do what they are good at. And in doing so, they embody what art must be more than ever: critical and disruptive, with both feet firmly planted in today's world, with everything they have and can do. With hair and skin.

These are works that are disruptive in their own way, bringing cultures together, tearing them apart, or conversely highlighting the result of the hodgepodge that is our society today. It shows artists holding their own within their own developed language, and who continually evolve regardless of everything—or precisely because of everything happening around them.
