Faith – Treasures from the Realm through the eyes of today
What are your rituals? Who can you forgive? What gives you peace? Whether you are religious or an atheist, everyone believes in something. Faith explores what gives people a sense of stability in a constantly changing world. Drawing on 35 masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum collection, six guest curators share their personal views on faith, including three guest curators from Limburg with remarkable stories and perspectives from the region.
From Renaissance master Sandro Botticelli and the 17th-century David Vinckboons to Charles Eyck and Karel Appel: art from different eras and movements comes together with personal stories about faith, rituals, and the search for meaning. In this way, Geloof invites you to reflect on what connects us, where we draw strength from, and what gives you a sense of stability.
Six personal perspectives
Discover three personal perspectives on faith through artworks from the Rijksmuseum collection. Guest curators Stephan Sanders, Arnon Grunberg, and Naema Tahir each show, from their own backgrounds, what faith means to them. This involves not only religion, but also the various ways in which people find meaning, stability, and connection in their lives.
In the exhibition, you will also discover three Limburg perspectives on faith. Theatre maker and writer Abbie Chalgoum explores the uninhibited gaze of children with *Kinds geloof*. Artist and writer Joep Vossebeld shows in *Volksgeloof* how rituals, symbols, and superstition are still part of daily life. Artist duo Marta & Slava investigate the search for meaning with *Ongeloof(lijk!)* in a time when old certainties are becoming less and less self-evident.
